"I've searched everywhere for the perfect fleece jacket, but no brand seemed to make it...until Patagonia's Retro-X! This jacket is warm yet versatile, so it's great for a variety of temperatures and conditions. Outside fleece is snuggly and sheeplike. Inside is not rough like I'd expected...it's just not fleece. This actually gives the jacket a bit of a structured feel, which I like. The Retro-X is cut well--it's very flattering! To continue with the sizing debate, I am 5'7, 120 lbs, 34C--tall and slender with long arms. A Small fit me perfectly: long enough everywhere, wiggle room for comfort and layering, but not baggy and awkwardly poofed out like many other similar jackets. Excellent jacket, excellent quality!"

"A quality jacket that certainly seems to keep the wind out, but not very cozy...the inside is very stiff. Would recommend ordering a size up because this is very tight fitting and a bit short on the length. I'm 5'7 135lbs and ordered a small. I had to return it. I was looking for an every day soft fleece and this seems to be more of a technical, hiking or other, fleece."

"I have heard that polar bear fur, which is hollow, directs the sun down the hair and to the bear's skin, providing warmth. This jacket (I have Teak color) apparently does the same thing. In bright sunlight, the side facing the sun get very hot, causing issues with trying to maintain a good temperature. While I wear it all the time, and love it, I wouldn't wear it an adventure, where sweating due to the sun may cause harm."

"This jacket is cut very slim--close to the body. If you have a "boyish" figure (slim thru the hips), then it's not a problem, but it won't fit you well if you have more of an hourglass figure.
Having said that, it really is a great jacket--lightweight and very warm. However, I'm surprised that Patagonia did not attach zipper pulls as they do with their other outerwear. While this is a minor detail, it would add to ease of use when you have gloves on and you are fumbling with the zipper."

"I was sorry I had to return this. I'm unusually long waisted. This jacket has a little curve in at the bottom back which tucks in just below the behind to follow a woman's curves, keeping it snug to the body. Unfortunately that tuck in hits me above the bottom of my behind where I'm still curved out. That makes it bulk out all over the place in the back and look funny. At first I thought it was too big in the back. Then I realized it was that the back wasn't long enough for my body type. This is just a caution for all you very tall or very long waisted ladies. I love my other Patagonia jackets & they're fine for me, because they either flare out or have elastic. The retro X is incredibly warm and cozy though and should fit most."

"This jacket keeps me warm! Its by far the warmest fleece I have ever owned. Very flattering on also. The sizing was a little different. I have the vest in a small and its a great fit but definitely fitted and Im 5'3" and a 32B. I ended up going with a medium in the jacket and there is PLENTY of room. The jacket is warm enough that you dont need much under it so a small may have been okay but I do like to wear a hoodie under my jackets so decided to keep the medium. It really does look great on...my husband says it looks really good but I think its a little boxy in the shoulder area...he says Im imagining it. The more I wear and wash it the comfier it gets. There is one thing I really dont like about this jacket and its the piping along the sleeve edge. Its some sort of elastic stuff. My jacket is only a month old and it has a bunch of little pulls all over that part and little string pieces of whatever that material is sticking out. Overall its a wonderful jacket. Its extremely warm and looks great on. :)"

"This coat is great. It has kept me warm through hayrides on nights when temps are down in the 30's, dog walks in brisk cool winds, and a knock around coat to run errands. It is fitted for a woman so it looks cute but yet it is a total gear coat; from the zip to below the chin, pockets (hidden inside too), the non fleece panels on the side. I researched this coat and kept coming back to it. Glad I finally got it!"

"I LOVE this jacket! The outside feels great, the inside is soft, and the fit is perfect. Yes, the arm panels are a little stiff but with wear they loosen right up! I live where there are very cold winters and I wear this jacket almost everyday. Its great for layering underneath, but keeps plenty warm without. Cute and stylish- a great purchase!"

"I have this piece as both a jacket and a vest. I love the look and the feel of both (I also get compliments on the purple-blue color of mine). This is a very warm jacket! I much prefer it over my North Face Denali as this jacket is far more windproof. I agree with some others that the jacket can have a stiff feeling. This gets better the more you wear it though (read-soon). My only other complaint is that I wish it were a couple inches longer on the torso and arms. I am 5'9", slim, and wear this jacket in a medium. I find the length a bit short. It would be even a little warmer if no drafts got in the bottom!"

"Just got the jacket yesterday, wore it all day in windy 50 degree weather. Wore great, I was warm and the rose taupe is a great neutral color! I ordered a size larger, I wear a M and the L fits perfectly. Glad I went up a size, so I can wear a sweater underneath. I'm 5'8" and slim w/ broad shoulders. My first Patagonia purchase, I will be back!"

"I have the plush synchilla hoody and the retro-x fleece jacket. Any day of the week, I would rather wear the plush synchilla hoody. While the panels are supposed to keep out the wind, I find it makes the jacket excessively stiff w/o helping too much will the wind. The collar is quite stiff and can irritate my chin. I am 5'1'' and 110lbs - I usually wear an xsmall and this jacket in an xs fits comfortably everywhere but the bust (32c). I get the "smashed" in feeling in this jacket. I also can't fit anything thicker than a tee underneath. The jacket is too thick to wear under another jacket. Perhaps a bigger size would have been better (I'm lazy about exchanging). This jacket has stayed in very good shape (because I rarely reach for it)."

"Really like the 'sheepy' look of this jacket. Have 2 of them. The only part about this jacket I don't like is that it's a bit stiff and the inside material isn't very comfortable on the skin. Definitely only wear it with a long sleeve underneath it. It would be nice if Patagonia could come up with an inside material that's not so rough and stiff but still keep the outside appearance of the fabric."

"I have nothing but good things to say about this jacket. It is my most coveted clothing item here in San Francisco during the summer -- the windiest, foggiest time of year. I zip it right up to my neck, hop on my bike, and feel no chill. It totally blocks wind like they say it does. It is sized on the small side, but I don't tend to layer this with much else so fitted works really well. The color (aqua) is also quite lovely."

"I had to return this jacket as it was too tight around my tummy and rather too snug a fit around under-arms. I purcahsed the largestest size available, XL, whcih in other web-vendors' offering of outdoor / cold weather gear fits perfectly fine most of the time. Upon trying this jacket, did feel lightweight, not bulky and warm enough. Should make a good buy for the "right"body type. Patagonia could make at least a few more products available in a bit roomier fit -- maybe lable them XXL or Plus or whatever terminology seems best."

"I was looking for a nice, warm, comfy fleece for a new job as a guide at a great camp in the Adirondacks. Just got this jacket today and it is amazingly comfortable (I was expecting the side panels to be really stiff...they give the fleece a little structure, but are not uncomfortable by any means)!
Weighing in on the sizing debate--I am 5'4" and 135 lbs/C cup...I was worried that the medium I ordered (the size I usually wear) would be too snug, gauging by the other reviews, but it fit absolutely perfectly! If I'd gone a size larger, the arms would have been waaay too long! No excess bagginess in the waist like other people commented on at all. There was just enough room for a long-sleeved shirt/fleece vest underneath, and it would probably be okay to layer with a light sweater, too.
All in all, I'm super-excited to see how it performs on some chilly mountain nights!"

"I'm not a particularly athletic person but I'm slight of build and spend a lot of time outside in San Francisco where it is cold, foggy and windy. This is the perfect jacket for say, watching a soccer game in the polo fields where the wind whips through and there is no protection. The wind block built into this jacket really makes a difference. I'm always the one who is cold but I now notice that while others are freezing, I'm just kind of cold."
