"Wasn't sure I needed another jacket, but figured I'd give this super light soft-shell a try (I've got a heavier soft-shell and a couple windbreakers). This jacket is a perfect addition, preforms as I'd hoped, cuts the wind yet breathes enough that I don't need to immediately take it off after I warm up a bit (unlike like my other wind jackets). Also light enough to throw in "just in case"... also got caught out in a colder situation and I layered it over a lightweight fleece and it provided more warmth than I would have expected. BTW- The slim fit is perfect (I'm 6'1" 175), kudos patagonia!"

"Just got my hands on the Traverse jacket... and I immediately knew this would become my most-used piece of outdoor clothing - my "go to" piece for nordic skiing, mountain biking AND trail running. Nice slim fit, nice soft feel, and long sleeves.
One criticism (are you oaying attention Patagonia designers?)... Does a piece like this, for its intended purpose, really need two zippered hand pockets? This adds unnecessary weight and bulk to the jacket. And how about adding thumb loops? (I'll look forward to a complimentary upgrade next season if you utilize my suggestions!)"

"This jacket is a great soft shell! It sheds moderate rain and snow( I was just outside today in it,for our first snow this year, and the snow just rolled off it)!! It is very wind resistent and it keeps heat in while breathing well. I use it for running and casual wearing (people have complemented me about it) , and it would probably be good for backpacking and climbing( definately a jacket for minimalists). If you are a naturally warm person, this jacket works in very cold weather if you're wearing the right amount of layers under it. No complaints here!!!"

"One of the best designed jackets of all time. If you are a multisport endurance athlete this may be one of your most essential items of clothing. I use it for trail running, cycling (including my bike commute), and cross country skiing (on the fresh 3" late October snowfall we received last week). It sheds snow, light rain, and is comfortable even with aggressive double poling."

"This jacket is so close to getting it right. Love the material it's made from. Highly breathable with good wind and rain protection, a perfect balance for high output activities. Unfortunately the lack of hood limits this to pretty much a running/cycling. It's solid DWR and great ventilation is wasted, your head gets soaked in any amount of rain. This would be so much more versatile if they would come out with a hoody version. But when ever there is any change of rain, this sits in my closet."

"Really enjoying the Traverse Jacket. I used this when running Massive and Elbert and it seemed about the right weight for me. Shed light snow and light rain, kept out the wind, but wasn't too hot. Nice pockets. Fits pretty small relative to other Patagonia mediums."

"I went for a quick training hike to the top of Mt. Si for work, started at the bottom at about 8:00AM and it was a comfortable 55* by the time we got to the top the wind was howling around 30knts and the temperature had droped to the low 40's. All that i needed to do to keep warm was through my Traverse on to keep warm after sweating so much on the way up. Is a great jacket and perfect to thow in your pack to have when the winds kick up or a spring storm gets the jump on you"

"This jacket is very light weight, but still very waterproof. A few days after it arrived I was caught in a rain storm. This was one of those North Carolina Mt. downpours. I stayed dry as could be under the jacket. Amazing breath ability also. Wonderful light shell."

"Works well for winter running in New England: not too heavy, but enough protection from the elements with a capilene or capilene+R1 under. Close fitting which avoids having excess material billowing. Sizes are true and consistent."

"All in all a really solid layer. Don't expect it to be completely wind or water proof. I've found it to be great for bluebird ski tours and nordic skiing when it's not too blowy or cold. Combine it with something like the Biostretch or Cap 1 long sleeve and throw a Houdini or similar in a pack or pocket and you've got a pretty good system.
The one thing I wish is that this jacket had a chest pocket and that Patagonia would start making the sleeves on their jackets either more adjustable or simply wider. I like putting the cuff of my mitt or glove into the jacket and these cuffs are super narrow. A velcro strap would be nice.
Overall, this jacket will be a pretty good addition to your layering system."

"This is the perfect jacket for cool weather runs. It breathes great and the fabric is super smooth and comfortable over a light shirt. heck it would be comfortable all by itself! Not only is it technically wonderful but looks great as well. I picked one up on the web specials page in "wildwood" which is essentially the same color as Alpha green or Ranger green.
I cannot say enough good things about this product!"

"Love the light weight. Love the sleeves as they are tapered to work well with layers. I wear mine under another heavier softshell on really cold days.
Like the color, mine is a middle-range blue.
Good pockets too."

"This jacket does what it's advertised as doing. I've used it hiking and biking and plan to use it as a shell this winter while nordic skiing. The slim, stretchy fit worked great as a bike jacket. Nice to have pockets to stow small things. Fairly breathable. Only negative is the waist cord locks-they have abraded my pants where they rub. Not good."

"I have used this jacket rock climbing, running and for casual wear. I live in the Colorado Mountains around 9,000 feet and intended to use this for Nordic skiing and running. However I have been rock climbing in it and have found it very durable for crack climbing – good abrasion resistance. For use as outerwear during aerobic activities it does breathe well, but is not very windproof. This is a very thin jacket and if the wind is blowing at all I wear my Houdini jacket over it, because unlike other soft shells I have used it doesn’t block much wind. The fit for me is average to somewhat roomy, not slim or bulky, but a jacket I can layer a few items under as needed – one note I am athletic build (triathlete). Overall I think this will be a good work out jacket and I will wear it as an outer piece on calm days, under my Houdini when the wind kicks and as a layer when I am alpine & back country skiing."

"I got this jacket for the spring rain in NZ and it is working great. Love it. Suggest it. Just make sure you have a good base layer to go with if it is cold out."

"I am very happy with this purchase. It fits true to size and is very comfortable to run in. On a recent trip to Vancouver I wore my new Traverse Jacket through a downpour while running around beautiful Stanley Park. I was comfortable and surprisingly dry."

"Last spring, I bought a pair of the Cold Track Light pants. I sent Patagonia an email imploring them to make a jacket out of the same fabric. Now they've done just that! So far, it's everything I expected. Only gripe is the listed weight does not appear to be correct. Mine weighs 10.5 ounces (medium). But it's a great piece of kit, one which I'm sure will get a lot of use!"
