Very warm, barely bigger in '09

"I have an F8, and now an F9. (That's Fall '08, and '09). I got the newer one just to compliment my newer jacket's titatnium color, but now find it is a bit lighter, thought it seems a bit warmer.

The Fall '09 is completely even about the base, whereas Fall '08 had longer and shorter areas for ear cover. But Fall '09 is fine for ear cover and not in my eyes either... it seems to perfectly fit and the length in back is appreciated now as it give 1" over the back of my Reconnaissance jacket when it's fully zipped."

Nice for keeping your head warm

"I wear this hat everyday and for the most part it's great. It's just thick enough to keep you warm without overheating. My only gripe is the wind cuts right thru it, and in extreme cold it isn't enough.But for active sports or under a hood, it's a great of a good hat."

"I have had a original Beanie from 10+ years ago and still going strong....I have to say this new one is alittle lighter and alittle bigger than before, but still a great hat to take the lead to my old standby for the next 10+ years"

"I've been very impressed with this Patagonia beanie; it fits well even though I have a large head (many hats like this are too tight for me) and looks smashing. I've worn it in temperatures down to about -5 Fahrenheit and it has been enough to keep me warm."

"i recently lost my good patagonia beanie, so I bought one of these to replace it. it's perfect for winter, comes down over my ears and keeps me plenty toasty. a perfect, no frills hat for backcountry skiing and climbing."

"Nice hat overall. I have a small/medium sized head and short hair. There is a bit of extra room around the top of the hat. Other than that it is very comfortable."

"Maybe I have a melon head because unlike the review above I love this beanie for the fit as well as fabric weight and great colors. I need a beanie to cover my ears in the cold. I must admit I don't wear a beanie under my helmets so this could be a problem for people that do."

"Patagonia has been making the beanie for years, and I have been buying it for years. Why? Because it comes in cool new colors and patterns every year. That's why it really pains me to say that they don't make 'em like they used to. The fabric appears to be the same, and it's a perfect weight, but the fit is terrible. The hat is much longer than the other two older Patagonia beanies I own (the circumference is great). I have to pull this hat clear over my eyes in order to have a tight fit at the crown of my head. And it doesn't fit under my helmet because if I want to see, there's a bunch of extra fabric at the top. It would be much better if this hat were actually a beanie, and fit closely on my head."
