Not what it was; not what it should be

"This hat is a poor imitation of the original Synchilla Alpine Hat. The material is too thin and the cut is too shallow... I had to crank it down to cover my ears and even then it did not seal them off well enough nor stay there. This hat is not the classic Synchilla Alpine Hat! I don't mind shaving material to save weight but this hat has been whittled down to the point of being useless unless you are petite and going outdoors means shopping at the mall."

Synchilla Alpine Hat

"Own 3 colors of this hat from about 3-5 years ago!
It keeps the head warm and actually blocks out some, if not most, wind, which is really weird because Synchilla "always" lets the wind pass through it.
I've owned Synchilla fleece jackets and hats for many years and it always let winds pass right through it. The fleece is really meant as an "insulating layer" but not to block wind!
Anyway, this hat is very warm even in chilly and windy conditions. It does bead off some rain but not much but it will keep the snow and sleet off your head. Obviously, the snow/sleet will eventually soak through but it'll take awhile!
Fleece hats are pricey compared to traditional wool or cotton hats but it's worth it, hence why I own three differently colored hats!
Too bad that Patagonia tends to remove the bright colors, like red or natural, since it does help with the visibility!"

"The size makes it the lightest, warmest hat i've ever owned. I have one in all 3 vehicles and all my go packs for work. Get some other colors."

"While not as bad as the Synchilla gloves, this hat also let's too much wind through to be effective in keeping my head warm. On the bright side, my head doesn't get sweaty."

wonderful hat for women!!

"If you're a woman with long hair I highly recommend this hat. I have three -- in size large! -- and I can stuff all my long hair up into one of them. Because I get a large it handles all the hair with ease and still has a bit of it's own shape left over -- unlike a skull cap (which always makes my face look like a puffy grape because they can be SO tight). I thought I should get a different style hat this year so I looked around a lot, but I'm going back again to get this one in the charcoal gray color. You can just throw it into the washing machine -- unlike the wool hats -- and it comes out looking exactly the same. Warm, sexy, easy, inexpensive, and still my favorite."

"Not sure if anyone else found this to be true, but i thought i was a "L" size and boy was i wrong. I wear a 7 1/2 fitted hat and figured i was a "L" only to find when i recieved the hat, it was uber big. I have since returned it for a "M" so no big deal. Great Hat, be mindful of the size."
