Warm, but Not as Nice as Wool

"I have several Patagonia wool baselayer shirts, but no bottoms. I got these because they were on sale, and I didn't want to spring for the wool at the time. They insulate well and keep me warm, but they don't perform nearly as well as my merino garments. They get smelling pretty fast, and when inside, they keep me feeling too hot, whereas the wool would regulate the temperature better. I would recommend these, for sure. But eventually I will probably move up to the merino equivalent."

"If my job, and my usual lifestyle would allow, I would be completely clothed in Patagonia-wear. My Capilene bottoms are perfect for my northern Texas environs, and while they have not yet had the expected workout they are a perfect fit."

Very Warm and comfortable under waders

"I have used these bottoms for the last two years on Fishing and Skiing excursions in Alaska. When fishing, I typically only wear these under my waders and they have performed flawlessly any time the thermometer plummets. Wet and cold is not the time to wonder if your gear is going to work or not. If the temperature drops below 25 or so I will combine these with a Capilene 2 Bottom for fishing. This is a great piece to take along anytime the weather is uncertain."

"I had to knock off one star because of the fit. I have purchased the Cap 3 Bottoms in the past, and was perfectly happy with them, but the last two pairs I purchased seem to fit tighter than previously. And no, I'm not getting bigger. I wear them under the Rubicon pants in cold weather for snowboarding, and they work great. I just prefer a baggier fit."

"Capilene keeps me dry & comfy in any conditions. Perfect under wind blocking or shell pants. Alpine or nordic, winter runs, biking on the lake. Always along for the ride."

"The Capilene 3 Bottoms provide a great base layer for warmth and also wicking away moisture. The fit is amazing, not high waisted and bulky like other brands of "long johns". I highly recommend the Capilene 3 for skiing in cold weather."

"i bought a pair of these a while ago and loved them so much I had to snag another pair. I wear these under a pair of 2 layer shell pants for skiing and stay toasty. I'm considering a pair of capaline 1 or 2 for the warmer spring skiing days. very pleased."

"I love these bottoms! They're warm and comfortable and fit me perfectly! If you're tall (I'm 6'6") and you're frustrated with baselayer bottoms that fit like capris, you need these!"

"The honeycomb texture of this fabric wears out abnormally fast. My pair lasted about one full winter before they wore out. While it is true the fabric does not make you sweat, it does a poor job of producing heat from your body tempature. As an insulator it is satisfactory but not excellent or superior. The waistband has the patagonia integrity we have all come to know and love."

"stel-lar, adj. 1. Of, relating to, or consisting of stars. 2. Of or relating to a star performer. 3. Outstanding; principal. That's right, stellar; pretty sweet for wintertime underpants. Why wouldn't you give them a try, they work!"

"I bought these primarily to keep my legs warm while riding my motorcycle on chillier days. While they will certainly get some use on the mountains this season, they do the trick on the bike, keeping the wind out and my legs fairly warm. At temps around mid-30's at 55+mph, they still offer good comfort and relative warmth beneath a pair of jeans.
Super comfortable!"

"I love my cap 3 bottoms. I would say that I wear these twice a week all winter long. my only question for patagonia is, can you do some thing about the "between the legs area" wearing out? It seems like thats the first place to go every time. Don't get me wrong, I will always buy and wear cap 3 bottoms. having the "between the legs area" wear out first must be so you have to buy a new pair."

"These will keep you dry and warm in cool weather and - if you're moving a tad more intensively - in cold weather too. The Gladiodor odor control works well, but don't expect to be wearing these for more than a few days in a row before people begin steering upwind from you...but a quick wash and they're dry and good to go in a flash!"

"As a fly fishing guide, I demand the best from my gear. These are the perfect first layer under your waders when the water temps are 60 degrees and below. Fit is spot on and they stay put. No riding up or down. These will be in my arsenal from now on!"

"Great layer for stop and go activity in cool to cold weather. A bit baggy in the calves, but I have thin legs."
