"I live in South Florida and being out in the sun is a way of life, I spend the summers in Vail where sun is a way of life. Simply put this is the only shirt you need for any outdoor activity, we hike, fish, ride hourses, and bike. It works well to dine at night, put on a jacket and eat anywhere. I hate to write such a good review because it will never go on sale again but had to tell the truth."

"I don't know about this shirt. I bought it as a breathable, comfortable shirt for travel in warm climates. On my recent trip to Ecuador it worked but not well. On me the sizing is strange - a medium is snug, yet a large is baggy and loose. The pockets can swallow lots of stuff, but they tend to sag so that retrieving stuff from a pocket is a nuisance. The fabric seemed to irritate my neck. To be fair, the fabric also seems to breathe well, so that in hot weather I stay reasonably comfortable - with the sleeves rolled up if necessary. I certainly wouldn't condemn this shirt outright, but I'd be reluctant to recommend it to a friend."

"I purchased this shirt for fly fishing in the Eastern Sierras.. Spent a cool fall evening in the sierras and this shirt worked perfect for me. Even works great for heading into town for dinner and drinks. comfortable free range of motion while casting my fly rod and gets a thumbs up from the wife for our dinner date. A real winner."

"Perfect weight for airplanes plus a light layer for evenings in hot climes or layer under fleece in cooler. Cotton breathes without getting stinky and slimy like some of your all-polyester shirts. Pockets for tickets! My husband never travels without it and neither do I. So please, Patagonia, bring back the women's Island Hopper in a year or two before the ones I have wear out!"

"Wore this shirt to a wedding. I got a few compliments on how good it looked. It was a hot, steamy party at the beach. I ended up getting a little "over-served", and slept in my station wagon. I woke up, found my shirt in a bundle, threw it on and got more compliments at the coffee shop!"

"I have probably had more fishing shirts than anyone I have ever known. I wear the new ones to dinner and the old ones on the river. In the winter I just throw a zip-T under it and I am good to go. The cotton blend is very comfortable in hot climates. Unlike other fishing shirts which are 100% polyester and are extremely hot to wear. I usually wear out the buttons and thread before the shirt shows any sign of abuse.. Great shirt for many uses"

"I love this shirt. In fact I have several. The pockets are great, they are terrific for passports and travel documents and then hold a fly box upon arrival at the flats. They also do nicely at an upscale restaurant in Calgary after a day on the Bow. The workman ship is terrific."
