No need for felt boots anymore

"I was a little skeptical when I purchased the Riverwalker - Sticky wading boots with a rubber sole. I was convinced I made the right decision when took my first step in the ice cold water of the Skykomish River. I fished all day and never slipped. I was steelhead fishing so it wasn't easy wading...can you say big boulders? Other benefits of the rubber sole: 1. It drastically reduces the transmission of diseases between bodies of water. 2. Snow does not stick to bottom of the boots. Did I mention there was three fee of snow in the parking lot? Walking in the snow all day was a piece of cake. 3. The boots don't hold water like felt boots which reduces the amount of water in the bottom of your drift boat or the foor mats of your car. 4. The boots are easier to clean and they dry faster. 5. If you walk into you local convenience store on the way to or from the river, you won't leave a trail of wet, muddy foot prints all over the store.
I can only think of one thing to change on the boots.....Patagonia is inprinted on the bottom of the boot. No one looks at the bottom of their boot, but everyone look for boot prints on they way to their favorite run. Reverse the printing on the bottom of the boot so everyone assocites the rubber star tred with Patagonia."

"These shoes have survived a year in the swamps of south Georgia. They are lightweight but provide ample support around the ankles. The "bumper" on the back is great for sliding down stream banks. We recently switched from Cabela's, and the crew couldn't be happier. Great boot."

"I have only used my new Riverwalkers-sticky rubber wading shoes a few times, but already they are my favorites. They are very comfortable and work very well. I have done so well with them my only concern is that I will/have become too comfortable wading in them. I did slip once, but that is to be expected now and then. Usually by the end of the day I want to get my wading boots off as soon as possible. My Patagonia sticky boots are plenty good for the walk back to the truck, put the equipment away and drive back to camp before they come off. Great job Patagonia"

"First off, I would like to say that I am a very, very failthful Patagonia customer, especially for their fly fishing gear. I have had two pairs of Patagonia felt boots before my current "sticky" rubber purchase. These boots are horrible for traction in the river. There is no way that they should be called "sticky" rubber. The felt is much better. Now, if you are buying them to stop the spread of invasive aquatic species and to have a better boot to walk in on land, that's great..go for it. But if you are buying them expecting the same traction as the felts, you will be sorely disappointed and aggravated. The technology is not yet there for the rubber boots, these need very big improvements."

"I have now worn these so called "sticky rubber wading shoes" on two fishing trips, the last being last week to Alaska fishing 6 rivers in the Katmai National Forest. The shoes were fine trekking into and from the rivers. Once in the rivers they were horrendous, incredibly slippery and zero traction in two many rock conditions. Very very dangerous. One of our guides claimed he gave up on them as he couldn't even go where his clients did because of the risk."

Please keep in mind that we offer three types of these shoes to suit your needs. Sticky rubber is exceptional in the snow and for hiking to your destination. The felt and the studded are better for traction in the water.

"No more sliding down grassy, or muddy banks, and the fact that they are the most comfortable wading boots I have used, are just two of the things I like about the sticky soles.
I have both the Riverwalker sticky, and felt soled boots. One day on the Kern River in CA, I wore one of each. The sticky sole performed as well as the felt stone on the slick bottom, and surpassed the felt on the banks. They are great!"

A Pleasant Surprise

"I purchased a pair of sticky Riverwalkers for work in Hawaiian streams. The substratum commonly consists of lava cobbles, boulders, and bedrock, often covered with silt and/or algae, thus earning the nickname of "greased bowling balls". Skeptical at first that anything other than felt soles would keep me from going down, I was surprised to find the Patagonia Riverwalkers provided good traction hiking to the streams on muddy trails, 'a'a boulders, and smooth bedrock surfaces provided the bedrock was not wet. However, once in the water the sticky soles tended to slip a little more than felt soles do. Yet the shoes have great toe, ankle, and sole protection so no harm done as long as I could maintain my balance. The top of the shoe seemed a little tight around the legs when the laces were tied. They are light, easy to carry, and dry quickly. Since this is my first impression with the shoes, I'll keep using them and see how they do over the course of a year or so and see if I can post another star..."

"I have used the Riverwalker - Sticky for several years and love them and I also have the Riverwalker with felt and studded sole. I would really like to see a Sticky rubber sole with studs so I can safely take studded soles to pristine rivers without risking carrying invasive species."

"I have been flyfishing wading rivers for the past 45 years and have used rubber hip boots to felt bottom boots and now I have reached Nirvana. My new Riverwalker sticky boots are fantastic. I was reluctant to leave felt but my sticky boots are better than I could imagine. The feeling of security is unmatched. Thanks Yvonne, another stellar product in an endless stream of superior products. Keep up the good work. From the days of Great Pacific Iron Works I remain your loyal client. Best Regards, Tim West"

"I bought these thinking they would be great in the winter when the snow normally would pack my felt bottoms. However, these have become the only boots I wear. Regardless of terrain the sticky rubber handles it well. Granted I did Modify them with a few carbide bolts on the bottom, but even without them they still grip well."
