"On its own or under a shell, this jacket rocks. Super light, very warm and adapts to changing temps. A must have when I travel outdoors or sneak over for a cold morning coffee. Absolutely love it."

Toasty and Light
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"This is a great jacket. I can wear it in sub-zero (F) weather with minimal layering and keep toasty warm. Easily packs away. A great purchase. Well worth the cost. I don't write website reviews, but this product deserves praise."

fashion not function

"Zipper broke after 3 months. Not meant for functional use in the backcountry or as an outer piece in winter conditions. Good for walking around town, fashionable."

Comfort
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"M's Down Sweater has an unconstrained fit. It's light and easy to bring along whether worn or packed. It has become an everyday item for me. I put it on the day it arrived and have worn it most days since. Unfortunately, I've been wearing it to and from work as opposed to outdoors on an adventure. This is a versatile and comfortable item."

cozy in central asia

"I bought this jacket for my husband who operates in austere environments around the globe. He reports that "even in 10 below weather, this bad boy keeps me toasty in the field and back at hq. Material is uber-packable, light on the body yet sturdy, layers well, and all the guys wish they had one in their 'kits' too.""

Great cold weather midlayer
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"Took this, a Spraymaster an R1 hoody and a wool 3 and 2 organic Ts for a weeklong trip to Boston and NYC last march. For SLC winters, this jacket and a good baselayer + a thin base layer is fine. However, in the NE, you really want to use it as a midlayer. As an outershell, the sewn through construction allow for cold air to come through. Once the shell was on, it warmed up nicely.

I am 6'1" and 180, and the Large is good for an outerlayer, but for a mid layer, I should have grabbed a Medium.

WARM
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"The Patagonia Down Sweater it warm and also because you do not look like a marshmallow you can wear it inside as a sweater. I am 6'5" 185 and the L fits me well, but if I was going to use this as a layering piece I would have bought a M."

Best Sweater Ever
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"Love, love, love this jacket/sweater. I am a girl but because I am tall and athletic (5'9" 145 #) I usually buy men's outerwear. I am an avid outdoors person but I am also a very cold person so I layer up. This jacket has provided me with countless days of skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, dog walking and just general around the yard work. It washes easily. It is fairly durable. One caution though, once it tears or gets a hole from say a stray ember from a bonfire, it's virtually impossible to repair. But overall it is very versatile and super lightweight, so it packs very nicely."

My new favorite
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"This is a fantastic "sweater." It is my new favorite garment. It is beautifully made, extremely comfortable, packs into its pouch just like advertised, and weighs next to nothing. The shell is thin, but that is how it is so light. With reasonable care it should last a very long time, just like all my other Patagonia clothes."

True to Reviews
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"FYI - This jacket truly is the amazing jacket all the reviews states it is. I spend at least 10 nights above 11,000 ft in the Utah Unitahs every year - and this with a light rain shell is all I ever need.

You won't be disappointed!

a fine sweater that could use a few things

"True to size; a bit big if anything. Warm and light and packs down small.

Please move the hand warmer pockets up and/or add a double zipper. A drawstring at the neck would be nice too.

Beijing's snow & blow
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"Picked up the down sweater shortly before a trip to Beijing. When we left D.C. the weather was far from calling for a down jacket and the same was expected on the other side of the world. I decided to take the down sweater b/c it's wicked light and packs down to nothing, even makes a good airplane pillow in a pinch. A day after our arrival Beijing got the earliest snow in 20 years with the help of the Weather Modification Office - no joke. The wind got to howling the next day and a water resistant, windproof down garment was far from overkill, especially at Tiananmen Sq and the Great Wall. This jacket let me stay out all day rather than snappin' some pix and heading for home. I'm looking forward to using it up in the Shenandoah near home."

Incredible Jacket
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"This jacket is as close to perfection as you could come. It is exactly like the description say it is and it is as good as everyone says it is in the other reviews. Most of the time I can't believe how warm it is and yet it's so "extremely light",warm and unbelievably good looking for a "down" jacket.. I live in Beijing, China and the winters are very cold. I have worn this in all kinds of conditions as insulation and as a all around jacket. The later is incredible because it seems to be perfect for a very large temperature range. From a little cool to just plain cold. When it gets really cold I wear it as a insulation (it's perfect for that because the cut is nice and trim and doesn't bulk up inside of a jacket..) or put something inside (it's perfect for that because the jacket is expands easily in the sleeves and torso but still looks good when you wear something underneath)
Everyone is always talking about how great technically Patagonia is and how long the clothes last (I have an original rain jacket that I bought in 1988 and it's still holding up......) and both things are true.
But the bottom line for me is that I HAVE TO LOOK GOOD ha ha ha ha....and the Down Sweater makes me look ike a movie star...........!

Love It
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"This down sweater was everything I'd expect from Patagonia as far as warmth and quality. What I didn't expect was how versatile it could be. I wear it out to dinner in the city, throw it on after a freezing surf ...its even great while I'm lounging on the couch."

Lightweight vs durability
3 out of 5 3 of 5 stars
"While I am thankful for the warmth of such a small and lightweight package, the zippers in this genre of jackets (as well as most everything in the micropuff series that I have ever owned, like my micropuff vest and hoody) continue to be the the first thing to fail, way too early for the price and life of the garment. The small plastic teeth don't seem to hold up, and pretty soon a few get chewed or bent and the whole zipper wont stay closed, or pulls out without much tug. It would be nice to put more durable ones on, even if it makes it heavier and unable to pack down quite as small."

Another hit
4 out of 5 4 of 5 stars
"I'VE PURCHASED MANY PATAGONIA PRODUCTS OVER THE PAST 20 YEARS AND ALL HAVE BEEN MORE THAN SATISFACTORY. THIS DOWN 'SWEATER' IS SUPERB IN EVERY WAY EXCEPT FOR ONE MINOR FAULT-THE SIPPER IS TOO SMALL FOR AN ACTIVE USE ITEM. OTHER THAN THAT NIGGLING LITTLE 'THING'-BUY IT WITH CONFIDENCE!!!"

impressive
5 out of 5 5 of 5 stars
"Most everyone I know and almost everywhere
I go I see this down sweater. Everyone knows
its value.

Lightweight and very warm, it insulates without
bluk. It works to stop a chill and to provide serious
warmth on bone-numbing days. It fights wind well
enough. Yet it's not a heavy jacket.

You will wear this noodling around, both in and
out. It's warmer than any shirt, flannel,
wool, whatever, without the heaviness.

I'm working on my third one, the first lasted
forever and I then gave it to a sibling to
wear.

It allows you to do what you will. Wear it
with a tee shirt underneath when
above ~30 degrees or layer it for
shocking conditions below zero.
