Really warm & wind resistant

"Yesterday I reached the mountain to find that I had forgotten my shell and only had the down sweater hoody to protect me from the elements. It was a rather cold day with wind chill well below 0 Celsius and I was looking at a 500 m climb up to 2,800 m asl. With only a lightweight Capeline T-shirt and a Capeline 3 Crew as base layers, I put on the hoody and hoped that I would not freeze. On the climb up, I kept the hoody 3/4 unzipped for ventilation and when I reached the top zipped it up all the way and donned the hood. Skiing down over wind-swepped crusty snow the hoody kept me nice and warm. To my surprise, the whole day the hoody with the base layers out performed my Gore-Tex Pro shell/fleece pullover combo that was my previous standard. This is a jacket that I will never forget to take with me."

"This immediately became my ski tour insulation of choice replacing a bulkier down layer and leaving more space in the pack. The down sweater is surprisingly warm for its feather weight feel and works as well on white out ridge as it does downtown in January. This is a must have for any cold environment where space and weight need to be minimal."

Awesome Jacket

"I read the reviews for the W's version and was worried that it might not be so forthcoming to those of us that are a little top heavy so I chose the M's L and it is quite comfortable. Not too short, not too long, not too loose and not too tight. I love, love, love it! Totally warm and cozy. I could easily sleep in it and wish there were pants to match! Although I am sure I would look quite dorky, I don't think I'd care!!"

Great jacket for various conditions

"I bought this sweater/jacket a couple months ago as my first Patagonia purchase and I have been extremely happy with the investment (yes, it kinda is an investment at $250 but everyone I speak with or that sees the logo speaks of the quality and durability). I have worn this jacket in all types of Fall/Winter weather; in a NYC rainstorm (dried relatively quickly once hung on a hanger inside), on a 50 degree sunny afternoon, and shoveling snow on a 25 degree night. The jacket is extremely versatile. While shoveling I literally wore only a tshirt and scarf under the jacket and was perfectly warm. It stops the wind to the point you can almost forget it's windy.

My only complaint is the hood. Unless it's zipped up all the way it doesn't really stay up over my head if there's any breeze blowing. I mainly got the hooded version for just-in-case purposes, so this isn't a big deal, but maybe in a future version they'll find a way to fix this minor problem.

I've gotten numerous compliments on this jacket and everyone remarks how it looks so much heavier/puffier than it really is. When I show them how soft, light, and thin it is they're borderline stunned.

Overall, an excellent jacket which has quickly become my go-to jacket for the Fall & Winter months."

A Great Sweater For Many Occasions

"I got this sweater a few weeks ago and have worn it everyday since. The down is extremely light weight and packs down to almost nothing, considering the versatility of the sweater. I am very impressed that while the jacket has kept me plenty warm on twenty degree nights, it isn't too warm to wear on cool sunny days. The hood is big, but falls nicely and doesn't look awkward like I expected it might and there is enough room under it to fit a bike helmet which I've found useful for commuting. The fabric blocks the wind nicely and compared to other jackets and sweaters I own the front pockets are always surprisingly warm. An amazingly practical, comfortable and stylish sweater."

"I've worn this coat often during the last few weeks of low 30's to low 40's Juneau fall weather - even in light rain. The red is eye pleasing. The fit is good (large medium here) but I'd order the next size up if you want lots of room. I am always warm, dry and comfortable. Had initial concerns about size of hood - as an urban/suburban creature that doesn't wear helmets - but was able to adjust the problem away. My guess is that I can continue to wear when winter hits. Very happy camper."
