Fall 2009 M's Storm Jacket

"Well-Made shell. Could be perfect, but it has issues: o The sizing is off. I'm 6'-2 193lbs 16.5-17 neck, 35-36 sleeves, 35-36 waist. The XL shell is required for comfort fit and proper fit over insulation layers (not midlayers!) like pile and down. The XL is the right size for me for hard shell use, BUT the hood visor is 1-2" too long and the sleeves are 1-2" too long... both are way long. And the front could/should be as long as the back.
o Hand warmer pockets could/should drop hands/arms lower for comfort instead of the up high aviator jacket feel. Put the front length back down to match the back, and the pockets will drop that critical inch or so.
o Needs at least one cargo pocket for hats, gloves, even rain pants. This is a shell with no cargo capacity unless you squeeze gear in with your hands. Very dumb.
o The rear drawcord on the hood could/should pull the hood visor back better. The relaxed visor comes down to my chin!
o The front drawcord on the hood needs a far more generous sleeve so it can draw closed against your head without immediately collapsing the outer hood shell into a crumpled mess. The cord sleeve here is not much bigger than the cord... spans a mere 1/4"!
o Are the arms articulated? Probably not, assuming the stretchy material would compensate. I'd prefer more articulation, and less fabric stretch.
It's well-made, but the design needs more work. Not as functional as my early 90s Storm Jacket."

"Great jacket, just used for a hunting trip up in Montana. This should be the only jacket I need for the next few seasons. Well made, well thought out. Rated at 4 stars because I'd like it to be not so roomy, but maybe it didn't get cold enough for me to layer up and need the room. Great piece of kit."

Great Jacket - They just keep on going!

"This is my third jacket over the past 16 years. They just last!
I bought this one to replace my Storm Parka that I bought many years ago which replaced a Guide Parka. They are easy to fold up into a day pack so that I have it when I need it. The fit is excellent and the pockets and features really meet my needs. The H2No fabric also maintains its water repellence over time.
I highly recommend this jacket!"

Incredible Jacket, Worth Every Penny!

"I love this jacket. Instantly my new favorite jacket. This is my first patagonia jacket. I own many jackets, from all the best manufacturers. I'm also super picky. Those jackets are all great jackets, but they are limited to specific activities. The Storm Jacket is quite literally "the total package". I ride A bicycle as my primary mode of transportation. I leave the house confident that I'm prepared for any weather situation that may arise. I'm 6'3" & 230lb's, the XXL is perfect. It's roomy all by itself, but not saggy. I've had too many jackets that made me look wide, with all kinds of crazy flaps & pockets and junk protruding off the jacket. The Storm Jacket is very sleek looking, without sacrificing pockets. Plenty of room for layering. I love the pockets & the Velcro is really soft & quiet. Great venting system, I really can't say enough about this jacket. If you seek maximum protection, comfort & style, you should buy this jacket."

I'm Impressed

"I just received this jacket a few days ago, so my review and rating are solely based on the fit and design. I am very impressed with how sturdy this jacket feels, but it is not heavy. Also, I am 6'1''/185 lbs and the large is probably the best fit of any jacket I have ever owned. I have owned ALL of the other brands and none have fit as well as this one. The sleeves are the perfect length and there is room to layer underneath, but the jacket is not baggy or too loose. Patagonia is it for me from here on out..."
